They are all set in different ages, and so are in no way interlinked. I would further advise you not to buy the first, as it is a complete waste of money which would now be dismissed as an average-to-poor flash game. If you're looking for a solid one to start off with, number 6 has the highest ratings and the most solid plot and game mechanisms. You may have noticed from other replies that #7 has the most hype (OMG ITS SEPHY!!!1!!!1one!!!), but it is NOT the best, in my opinion not even making the top 3. Sidenote: You may also want to consider number 4, it was my first game and I found it really easy to pick up. Final Fantasy 7 was my favorite of them all. I've still yet to find a game with a better story line as enthralling as it. :) plus great combat system known to FF's and loads of secrets and hours of play!
